Lake Chesdin
Lake Chesdin was created in 1968 by the completion of the George F. Brasfield (Appomattox) Dam on the Appomattox River. The dam is 1250 in length and 57 feet high and is located between the Chesterfield – Dinwiddie County line. The 3,100-acre reservoir is administered by the Appomattox River Water Authority and used for drinking water purposes.
Chesdin is a very productive lake that offers excellent fishing. The water is clean and generally of a good temperature for comfortable swimming. The primary activities on the lake are water sports and fishing. With plenty of room to roam you will find a wide variety of species including largemouth bass, both black and white crappie, channel catfish, and modest populations of walleye and striped bass.
For access to the lake there is a public boat ramp located in Dinwiddie County on Chesdin Road near the dam. The ramp is open 24 hours a day with a handicap accessible fishing pier.
There are also three private marinas with boat ramps, rental boats, bait, tackle, camping, and picnicking.
