On Saturday, May 28 the living history program, “Women in the Civil War” will occur at the General Grant’s Headquarters Unit of Petersburg National Battlefield. Presentations will begin at 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Each presentation will focus on a specific individual including Julia Grant, Confederate spy Rose Greenhow, former slave Elizabeth Keckley, and Mary Todd Lincoln. Living historians will present first person interpretations which will provide insight into the lives of these fascinating women. Visitors will be invited ask questions following each program.
The General Grant’s Headquarters Unit of Petersburg National Battlefield is located at 1001 Pecan Avenue in Hopewell and is open seven days a week, every day of the year except for major holidays.
Visitors can view a 15-minute video and participate in a tour of the 18th century home of the Eppes Family. The grounds are open until dark and include numerous wayside exhibits on the lawn surrounding the home and on the James River waterfront. For more information, please call (804) 732-3531 ext. 200.
