Petersburg VA Real Estate: “Citizens of the Siege”
We live in a very historical area here in Virginia with a vast amount of interesting stories behind it. This Saturday, August 20, history is going to come alive through a special guided tour entitled “Citizens of the Siege” in which you can hear some of those stories!
Costumed interpreters portraying Dr. John Herbert Claiborne, a physician, Ms. Mary Keen Armistead, a young bride, and Mr. Dunlop, a tobacconist, will enlighten visitors with accounts of their Civil War experiences during the long ten month Siege on Petersburg from June 1864 until April 1865.
This event will take place at the Siege Museum, 15 West Bank Street, Petersburg. The Museum will be open from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm with the special hour long tours beginning at the top of the hour from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Admission is $5.00 per person for adults. Seniors aged sixty and over, active duty military and children between the ages of seven to twelve are $4.00 per person. Reservations will not be necessary but please arrive a few minutes prior to the tour in order to purchase your tickets.
This special event will be sponsored by the Petersburg Department of Tourism, Museum and Visitor Services. For additional information, contact Martha Atkinson at (804) 733-2396.
