Do you own Chesterfield County real estate? Summer vacation is a great way to relax and get away from work and unwind -- besides YOU deserve it!  But, while you are away, is your Chesterfield County real estate really safe?  Statistics show that most home burglaries occur in July and August than any other months throughout the year.  These statistics will make home owners cringe as they get ready to depart for some fun so take some steps to ensure your home is safe while you are away.

First and foremost, having a home security system is ideal but in case you don’t have one set-up; having a neighbor or friend keep watch of your home would be a great idea and leave your vacation address and telephone number with then so you can be reached in case of an emergency. Give your home that “Lived In” look while you are gone and remember these key tips:

Leave window blinds open because closing them is sometimes a sure sign of an empty house.

Keep your car in the driveway or ask a neighbor to park their car in your driveway at night.

Hold your mail at the post office until you return and make sure you put your newspaper on hold.

Set up to have your lawn moved and trash cans put out for the scheduled collection.

Put timers on lights and a radio or TV and set them to match the family’s usual schedule.

Make sure you have good locks on all doors and windows and USE THEM!

Never leave house keys hidden outside your home (no matter how clever you are).

Don’t announce your absence or vacation plans on your answering machine messages.

Let your local police know your vacation plans.  Patrol officers can periodically check your Chesterfield County real estate.

Have an A-May-zing vacation and stay safe!
